Breakthrough Investments
In the UK, we have created an initiative called Breakthrough in conjunction with Community Action Network (CAN). The aim is to provide strategic support and growth capital to selected social enterprises to help them scale up significantly their business and thereby maximise their social impact. Around 20% of Permira’s London team has been involved with Breakthrough to date.
Teach FirstTeach First is an independent charity founded to encourage top graduates, who would not normally enter teaching, to teach for at least two years in challenging secondary schools in London, North West and the Midlands. The Charity provides quality food - surplus ‘fit for purpose’ product from the food and drink industry - to organisations working with disadvantaged people in the community. It also provides training and education around the essential life skills of safe food preparation and nutrition, and warehouse employability training through FareShare’s Eat Well Live Well programme |  | |

Green WorksGreen Works is an award winning not for profit social enterprise which provides a national service managing and recycling redundant office furniture on an industrial scale. It originated as Green Works CEO was aware of the huge volume of office furniture that was routinely land-filled and that many third sector organisations could not afford decent furniture. The task for Green Works was to match the market for recycled office furniture with the supply source. The Charity’s objectives are to protect the environment through the diversion of waste away from landfill, reduce the operating costs of charities and create employment and training for marginalised people. |  | |
